COCHRAN ANNOUNCES SHIPYARD GRANTS FOR MISSISSIPPI

Federal Maritime Administration Awards $2.87 Million for Shipyard Capital Improvements

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) today reported the award of more than $2.87 million in federal grants to support shipyard improvements in Pascagoula and Moss Point.

Three grants were awarded to VT Halter Marine, Inc. for capital improvements at its shipyard operations in Pascagoula and Moss Point.

“These grants are intended to help small shipyard operations remain competitive by ensuring they have modern equipment.  I am pleased that shipyard operations in Jackson County have qualified for this assistance,” Cochran said.

The Maritime Administration is making the following grants to Mississippi:

  • VT Halter Marine, Inc. at Pascagoula -- $1.56 million for a 450-ton transporter and portable retractable platen cover
  • VT Halter Marine, Inc., Moss Point Marine, at Moss Point -- $868,011 for a CNC burning table
  • VT Halter Marine, Inc., Halter Moss Point, at Moss Point -- $436,406 for a press brake and CNC burning table

The funding was approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration as part of its Assistance to Small Shipyards grant program. In all, the Maritime Administration awarded $17.1 million to small shipyards in 10 states.  Grantees are all shipyards employing fewer than 600 workers.
